Penryn 72, Plymouth Argaum 0

Penryn made it 100 points scored in two games, as they swept aside Plymouth Argaum in a 12-try rout.

The struggling away side travelled bravely down to Cornwall with 14 players, but were blown away by a Penryn side in a far from charitable mood. The home side raced to the bonus-point try after just 20 minutes and have now notched 20 league points from a possible 20 in recent weeks, conceding just six points in four league fixtures.

It took just two minutes for Penryn to get going, as some superb offloading sent Tony Pellow in for an excellent team try, Tomas Townsend adding the extras. Seven soon became 14, as more neat work in open play sent top try scorer James Salisbury away for another converted score. When Sam Hitchens coasted in for Penryn’s third after 15 minutes, it looked like a long afternoon was on the cards for the visitors and so it would prove. Skipper Grant Randlesome completed the bonus point on twenty minutes and with Townsend making it 28-0, it was now a question of how many Penryn would score.

Winger Josh Chambers scored two in two minutes as Penryn scored at will. Townsend converted one of the two scores and it was 40-0 with time remaining before the break. That soon became 47-0 as a riotous half from the Borough continued when Paul Saberton strode in for Penryn’s seventh of a one-sided affair.

If the first half was one way traffic, so too was the second as Penryn added five further scores. It didn’t take long for Penryn to chalk up another home half century, with Adam Hughes crossing barely two minutes into the half. Chambers completed his hat trick just three minutes later and Hitchens completing his brace before the 50 minute mark.

It was tough day for Plymouth Argaum, but they did muster a brief spell of possession and put together a series of phases on the Penryn line. The home side repelled those attacks however, to preserve the clean sheet. There was still time for Andrew Seviour and Callum Hinchley to walk in try number 11 and 12, before the contest was ended at the 70-minute mark with Argaum losing more players to injury.

Penryn travel to South Molton this week for their final league fixture of 2018.
