Wadebridge 19, Falmouth 13

Off the back of their home win over Tiverton, the Eagles were defeated on the road in Wadebridge after persevering through harsh, wet and windy conditions last Saturday, writes Charles Currie.

Playing with the wind in the first half, they were able to gain a lot of territory. Despite being in some strong positions they were unable to break through the Wadebridge defence.

Tom Edmonds was able to put Falmouth ahead with two penalties. It wasn’t to stay that way, when Wadebridge used their strong running forwards to take advantage of a slight lack of defence and put seven points on the board right at the end of the first half.

The Eagles came out fighting in the second half, whilst playing into the strong wind. Playing through good phases the team were still losing ground from some errors.

The forwards were on fantastic form, dominating the scrum which gave the team a chance to break through. This seemingly became a missed opportunity.

After some critical mistakes, the Camels would score a further two tries and another conversion, leaving Falmouth trailing by 13 points.

It looked like the game was over for the Eagles from the restart. The Wadebridge side broke straight through their defence. Fortunately, Matt Horton was there to make the tackle, stopping a near certain try.

Falmouth were able to make a strong fight back, making a rare appearance to the Camels’ 22, where they were able to put together a clean series of pick and drives, which put Liam Barkwill in the position to score.

With Matt Horton converting the try, the Eagles ended up with a narrow defeat. But where able to walk away with a losing bonus point.

Falmouth will be back in action for the Boxing Day Derby against Penryn at home.
