Hayle Runners took part in west Cornwall's first race of the year by running the four-mile race around the paths of the Clowance estate near Praze-an-Beeble.

Twenty-five members of the club took part and Tom Rosenfeld led the club home with a time of 27 minutes and four seconds, supported by Oisen Curtis who recorded a time of 32 minutes and 22 seconds.
Clare Hughes was next time with a great run to lead the women in on 32 minutes and 44 seconds, with Debbie Mitchell the next woman home with a time of 35 minutes and 13 seconds.

  • Hayle Runners are gearing up to take part in races around the country and abroad over the coming months.

As well as spring marathons and half marathons many members are taking part in the Cornwall Grand Prix which starts later this month with the Stormforce ten-mile race, starting and finishing at Camborne School.

This Sunday a large group from the club ran from Penrose estate in Helston with runs from six to 15 miles in length.

Club Chairman Simon Knowles said: "Every Sunday throughout the year Hayle Runners have a planned Sunday run which supports our members who are taking part in longer races either in Cornwall, elsewhere in the UK and sometimes abroad.

"It is a great opportunity to have support on longer training runs and we always finish with a chat over coffee and cake."

  • Hayle Runners training nights are Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm.

On Tuesday the club runs from Hayle Rugby Club where runners of all abilities are welcome to join 8-10 differently paced groups led by qualified leaders and coaches.

Thursday's session is a structured track session at Carn Brea Leisure Centre.
