Sunday morning saw the start of the Cornwall Glass and Glazing Grand Prix series with the running of the Stormforce 10 organised by Carn Runners. The race runs from Camborne through Barripper, Carnell Green and Reawla before a loop around Leedstown brings the runners back through Carnell Green towards Camborne and finishes with a fast and flat run in to finish at Camborne School. It is the opportunity for many runners to start testing their endurance for the season ahead and a record field of more than 550 runners took up the challenge. Hayle Runners had a good day with 57 members of the club taking part. Daniel Costello led the team home with a strong run just edging in front of Steve Fuller with Andrew Paroissien, Neill Cookson, Simon Knowles and Scott Abraham all helping towards helping the Hayle men’s team to fourth place. Scott was also rewarded for his efforts with a prize for third place in the 45-49 age group. Emma Paull started the season with a strong third place overall in the women race and third in her under 35 age group. Emma was supported by strong runs from a number of her Hayle colleagues as the green army’s women packed very well. Amy Jose, Faye Savage, Becky Tossell, Kirsty Medlock and Maria Williams all helped towards the women’s team taking second place behind Cornwall AC.

Diane Warren produced a personal best performance to win her 60-64 age group category and Stewart Townsend was pleased with his time which helped him win his 75-79 age group.

Club captain Simon Knowles said: "The results were a solid start for the new season with strong team results.

"There were also personal bests throughout the field with Debbie Mitchell’s stunning run taking seven minutes off her previous time for the race the cream of the crop.

"There were also distance club debuts from Sam Black, Gabrielle Hume-Rothley and Toby Drewett who all enjoyed their runs.We are looking forward to the Newquay 10k in a fortnight."
