Falmouth Town are set to play one of the biggest games of their season so far tomorrow night, when they visit St Austell in the quarter-finals of the Walter C Parson League Cup.

Falmouth, who won the competition last season, travel to Poltair Park with their sights set on a place in the last four.

Manager Andrew Westgarth said: “Yep, it’s a big game, obviously we’re the holders of the cup and St Austell won it the season before.

"I think they’re going to be going into the game clear favourites just on the back of form and how they’re performing this season.

"I think they’re expected to win a cup if not the league so they’ll be earmarking it as a game they’ll want to be winning.

“It’s a tough place to go and we haven’t been in great form. It’s a cup game and anything can happen but I would put them as clear favourites.”

Town may have revenge on their mind after losing 3-0 at the same ground in last season's Cornwall Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Town also lost 4-1 there on the opening day of the season, but won the return fixture at Bickland Park 4-2 in October.

The teams also shared ten goals in an incredible league game last season, in which Town came from 3-0 down to draw 5-5 at Poltair Park.

“They’ve always been quite eventful games," Westgarth said. "It is a little bit unfortunate to get St Austell again in the cup, you don’t want to play all the same sides over and over again, but all you can do is play what’s in front of you.”

Falmouth go into tonight's clash off the back of a fine 3-1 win at home to Cullompton Rangers.

Westgarth said: “It was a near-perfect day other than conceding a late penalty which is a bit unfortunate, but I think we far deserved our three points.”

One further positive was the appearance of striker Rob Wearne, who was included in a matchday squad for the first time since suffering a cruciate ligament injury at the end of last season.

“Yeah fantastic for him because it’s a long, long road to come back from injury," Westgarth said. "It’s not great watching the games from afar and reading about it. I think he’s done remarkably well to get back this quick.

“I’ll bet this is the fittest he has been in his whole life, he’s looking really sharp physically, he now just needs to get that game time.”
