It was a quieter afternoon in the Combination League on Saturday, with just five league games surviving the wet weather.

Helston Athletic Reserves maintained their place at the top of the table with a dominant 8-0 win at home to Carharrack.

Jowan Shainberg got the Blues off to a flyer with the first goal inside a minute before Charlie Young scored twice to triple the advantage soon after.

Young then sealed his fourth hat-trick since Boxing Day – and 14th goal in all – shortly before half-time before Shainberg netted his second barely a minute later.

Shainberg secured his own hat-trick to make it six after the break, before Jamie Thomson and Craig Tanner got their names on the scoresheet to complete the scoring.

With Falmouth Town’s Bickland Park being one of the ground to submit to the wet weather, Perranporth made second place their own with a 5-1 win at home to Lizard Argyle.

Justin Searle scored four of his side’s goals to not only seal victory, but propel himself to the top of the goal scoring charts in the process. He now has 28 goals in league and cup this season – one more than each of Falmouth Town’s Gavin Perraton, Penryn Athletic’s Ryan Reeve and St Ives Town’s Max Davies.

George Parkes also scored for the league’s second-placed side, while Dagan Vaughan-Spruce replied for Argyle.

Davies was the newest addition to the aforementioned chasing trio after he scored in St Ives' 4-1 win at RNAS Culdrose. Curtis Richards, Simon Stevens and Andy Barry also scored as the visitors moved above the inactive Penryn Athletic into fifth.

Mullion also took advantage of postponements elsewhere to move up two places to 11th after beating West Cornwall 3-1 at Clifden Parc. Elliot Courtman, Iestyn Head and Jack Price scored for Mullion, while Liam Richardson replied for the strugglers.

That result meant West Cornwall dropped to 19th after Porthleven picked up their second win on the bounce with a 4-2 victory at home to Pendeen Rovers. Jamie Greet and Zac Alexander scored two goals apiece for the Fishermen.

Illogan RBL became the first team through to the semi-finals of the Combination League Cup after beating St Just 2-1. Ashley Smeeth and Aaron Myers scored for Illogan, who will now face one of Wendron United, Penryn Athletic, Perranporth, St Day, St Ives Town or Pendeen Rovers in the last four.

Three games fell victim to the weather before play had begun, with Falmouth Town v St Day, Perranwell v Redruth United and St Agnes v Hayle all being postponed.

Wendron United’s game against Penryn Athletic did go ahead, but lasted all of ten minutes before referee Justin Moses called a halt to proceedings.
