Crediton 33, Falmouth 19

Falmouth’s recent mini-revival came to a halt at Crediton in their latest Western Counties West match on Saturday, although they can consider themselves unfortunate to not have returned from Devon with something from the game.

The hosts flew out of the traps with a try from Jason Luff after barely a minute, with Ollie Avery-Wright converting for a 7-0 lead.

Tom Edmonds got Falmouth on the board with a penalty either side of an Avery-Wright kick.

Just as the Eagles were beginning to close the gap, Crediton surged further ahead with Luff diving over for his second try of the day.

Edmonds slotted in another kick to reduce the deficit but Dan Yendell went over for Crediton’s third try of the day just before the break to give the hosts a 20-9 lead.

But the visitors hit back in the second half, first with a catch-and-drive try from A J Geach, before Alex Tacchi went over from a similar move. Both went unconverted to leave the Eagles one point behind at 20-19.

Avery-Wright landed two penalties to give Crediton a seven-point lead but still within a score of Falmouth, until Yendell scored again late on to deny the Eagles a bonus point at the death.
