Pool Academy’s football team has been crowned County champions after beating off top competition at the finals.

The secondary school’s Year 11 boys beat Callington 2-0 at Callywith College during the Cornwall County Cup

Finals much to the pride of their teachers and supporters.

The team secured their position in the last game of the tournament after a tight win against Helston, which had already secured the title of West Cornwall Champions, the week before with a penalty shootout score of 4-3 after a 3-3 draw at full time.

The win saw the boys given a large shield which they hope to display in their ever-growing trophy cabinet.

It will sit nicely next to the County Futsal trophy they won last year.

Mark Fuller, from Pool Academy, said he was ever so proud of the team and its sportsmanship. He added the players’ maturity in the game helped them to scoop the top title.

He said: “Our extremely talented Year 11s were crowned county champions after beating Callington 2-0 in the final. With a dominant performance throughout the game the boys’ talent and experience shone from start to finish.

“The boys have been amazing throughout the entire cup competition and I am immensely proud of what they have managed to achieve. This is my proudest moment in football and our year 11s made that possible.”

Emily Cromey, Head of Faculty for Art, Music, Drama and PE at Pool Academy, said: “I am so proud of those fantastic students and we need to shout out about how wonderful they are.

“Thank you to all the staff who have supported them and huge congratulations for their resilience, commitment and motivation.”

Julian Hosking, PE teacher, said: “We are really proud of them. It goes to show what a good attitude and work ethic can do.

“They are delighted and thank you to Mr Fuller for his time and support. That’s what has really made them such a success.”
