Wendron United are inviting people to watch Saturday’s first-team match at home to Liskeard Athletic to celebrate the life of club chairman Kevin Williamson, who died on Sunday afternoon.

The match at the Underlane will kick-off at 2pm, with a place in the semi-finals of the Cornwall Charity Cup on offer for the Dron, who reached the same stage of the Cornwall Senior Cup on Saturday after a thrilling 3-1 win at home to Porthleven.

It will be a tough task, however, with Liskeard yet to taste defeat in the South West Peninsula League Division 1 West this season.

Liskeard won 5-1 when the two teams met at the Blues’ Lux Park ground in August, with the reverse fixture back at Underlane on Saturday, April 27.

The bar will be open as usual but will close between 1.45pm and 2.15pm when a minute’s silence will be held prior to kick-off in memory of Kevin.

The club are not collecting gate receipts but will instead be taking donations for the Air Ambulance in recognition of their efforts in giving Kevin the best chance of survival.

The club's second, third and fourth team games have been postponed, with all club members heading to Underlane to show their support at the Charity Cup match.

Those unable to make the game are welcome to meet in the clubhouse afterwards to raise a glass to Kevin.

Kevin, aged 63, was taken ill at Underlane on Saturday after collapsing whilst celebrating the first team reaching the Senior Cup semi-finals.

A team of First Aiders were able to revive him using a defibrillator and he was taken to Treliske Hospital by Cornwall Air Ambulance, but the father-of-three passed away on Sunday afternoon.
