This Saturday sees the Cornish Pirates return to Greene King IPA Championship action with a Round 14 game away to Richmond (ko 3pm), writes Phil Westren.

The two teams have met each other five times since the West London’s team’s Championship level arrival in 2016. Richmond won the first two encounters, but the Pirates have emerged victorious since, including a hard-fought 29-19 result at home in September.

For Saturday’s 11th versus 5th in the league clash, the Cornish Pirates make four changes in their starting XV from the one that faced Jersey Reds last weekend. Matt Evans is selected on the wing and Alex Schwarz is named at scrum-half. In the forwards, prop Christian Judge makes his first start since September and Josh Caulfield returns to wear the number six shirt. A fit again Tom Duncan also takes a seat on the bench.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s contest, Cornish Pirates’ co-coach Alan Paver said: “We know we have to be on our mettle this Saturday, as nothing is a given and at this level you can’t get away with a poor performance, because you’ll get beat.

“It will be important that we do the basics really well to execute our game and that the set piece especially functions. It is crucial - you need a scrum, you need a line-out and you definitely can’t lose both in a game. Turning up with the right attitude is also key.”
