Newquay head professional Chris Gill completed a double at the Cornwall Alliance meeting at Trevose by winning both the individual and pairs events.

The former West Region order of merit champion recorded five-under-par 66 over the championship links worth 41 points. This brought a three-point advantage over prolific winner James Ruth (China Fleet) with promising newcomer Joe Cruse (St Enodoc) three shots further back.

Home pro Gary Lenaghan, Scott Richards (Truro) and Joe Venn (Tehidy) scored 33.

Gill, playing with amateur John Brierley, mastered the blustery conditions with 42 points in the pro-am. They beat Lenaghan and Ross Oliver on countback.

Chris Ramsden and Alan Engall (Mullion) finished one shot behind with Scott Richards and Simon Bray (Truro) on 40.

The last nine also decided the am/am result where father and son David and Tom Savage from Newquay pipped the Mullion pairing of Alan McColl and Mickie Doust on 43. Sean Harvey and Peter Lewis (Falmouth) and Nigel Connelly Jeremy Knight (St Enodoc) were a further shot behind.

There was great rejoicing in the clubhouse to celebrate a hole in one on the third by home assistant professional Gemma Marsland.
