Falmouth 3, Duchy 1

Falmouth saw off the challenge of Duchy to reach the County Cup final on Saturday.

Duchy took the lead after just ten minutes and held it for the whole of the first half, and despite lots of pressure from Falmouth and several short corner efforts, they weren’t able to find the equaliser.

Duchy defended with all 11 players behind the ball which made it very difficult for Falmouth to break through.

Falmouth went into the second half with a new game plan, and their first goal came with some great linking play between Amy Shaw and Vic Pryor, with the latter’s shot sneaking under the Duchy keeper.

Rachael Tatlow created Falmouth’s second goal by outpacing the Duchy defenders and slipping the ball to Shaw, who calmly slotted it into the net.

Falmouth’s defence dealt expertly with any potential threats from the Duchy forwards and calmly cleared the ball out of the danger areas.

Falmouth were rewarded with another goal, this time a reverse stick flick from Clare Hudson. The score finished 3-1 and Falmouth will now compete in the County Cup final against Newquay on Saturday, April 13.

Falmouth: A Cadwell, A Nickels, M Cookson, L Heather, N Oliver, F Ivall, R Ivall, C Hudson, D Burnford, R Tatlow, A Shaw, V Pryor.

Penzance II 2, Falmouth II 3

Falmouth’s seconds joined their first team in reaching a county final, beating Penzance to reach the County Plate final.

Things did not go their way in the first half, with Penzance scoring from two quick breaks to give them a 2-0 half time lead.

Falmouth came out determined after the break and their first goal came within the first two minutes. A good short corner move saw Rachel Medd push the ball goalwards from the left post.

This was just what Falmouth needed and they equalised a few minutes later. The initial shot was saved by the Penzance ‘keeper but Lucy Logan pounced on the loose ball.

Falmouth managed to score the goal they had been looking for with only two minutes left on the clock. Holly Doran found Imogen Robson who dived to reach and drive the ball past the goalkeeper.

Falmouth will face Caradon III in the County Plate Final on Saturday, April 13.

Falmouth II: J Moore, K Day, M Ball, M Rodda, B Row, F Rowe, H Brixton, R Medd, I Robson, H Doran, L Logan, Y Cornish.
