Callington Town 1, Helston Athletic 4

SCOTT Beattie scored twice as Helston Athletic recorded a comfortable win at Callington in the South West Peninsula League Premier on Saturday.

Alex Wharton scored his first Helson goal to put his side in front on ten minutes, before Jamie Thirkle doubled the lead two minutes later.

Beattie then netted his first on 15 minutes to give the visitors a commanding three-goal lead only for Cally to pull one back shortly after, but Beattie added another to wrap up the scoring midway through the second half.

It was a game which Helston dominated from the beginning, with Matt Bye latching on to Beattie's header and firing at the Callington 'keeper from when the net perhaps should have bulged.

But the visitors did not have to wait too much longer with Wharton opening his senior account on ten minutes. Beattie's shot was parried into the youngster's path who could not miss from four yards.

Within moments it was 2-0 when a Phil Cattran long throw was flicked on by Beattie towards Thirkle, who left the 'keeper with no chance with a well-struck volley from the centre of the box.

The game was almost over by the 17th minute when the lively Beattie added a third with the goal of the game. The Helston frontman controlled a pass with his chest 20 yards from goal before holding off two players and volleying the ball into the top corner.

But the remainder of the match was not going to be a procession as Callington hit back soon after, with a free-kick towards the touchline catching out Helston 'keeper Barrie Wyatt and dropping in off the underside of the crossbar.

Callington enjoyed a spell of pressure early in the second half but Helston were able to weather the mini-storm before Beattie notched the all-important fourth, powering a bullet header home from Bye's corner.

Beattie had further chances to bag a deserved hat-trick but twice fired wide when one-on-one with Callington's keeper, while Al Williams came off the bench to do the same soon after.
