Falmouth 3, Teign 3

Falmouth and Teign shared the spoils in a topsy-turvy match at home to Teign in their latest Premier Division 2B game, in which both sides enjoyed the lead at various points.

A shaky start left Falmouth 2-0 down after the first seven minutes. Once Falmouth settled we began to see the excellent team work we have witnessed in recent weeks.

Falmouth looked confident on the ball and used the space well, switching left and right to attack with speed down the wings.

It was Amy Shaw who got Falmouth on the score board with three excellent goals in quick succession. The first was taken through two defenders, round the keeper and pushed into the goal.

The second came from a base line run from Rachael Tatlow who pulled the ball back to Amy Shaw for a first time sweep into the goal.

The goal that took Falmouth ahead came from another impressive run down the right, this time from Alice Nickels. The ball was sent perfectly across the D setting up Amy Shaw for a reverse stick strike into the bottom corner.

Falmouth played some fantastic hockey in the second half with everyone pulling together to ensure Teign had no room off the ball and no time on the ball.

Teign put the pressure on but Hannah Mathias made an excellent save to keep Falmouth ahead, but with just five minutes left on the clock Teign were awarded a short corner which they were able to convert.

Falmouth will be disappointed not to have won, but can take heart from a good response to going two goals down.

Falmouth would like to thank sponsors Heather and Lay.

Falmouth: H Mathias, M Cookson, N Oliver, L Heather, N Hinton, A Bucknole, F Ivall, R Ivall, A Nickels, R Tatlow, A Shaw, C Hudson, V Pryor.

Falmouth II 12, Mannamead 0

Falmouth II had a convincing win over Mannamead who are struggling at the foot of Trelawney League 1.

The win was never in doubt as Falmouth went straight into the attack and did not allow Mannamead any scoring chances throughout the game.

Falmouth’s goal scorers, six in each half, were Suzanne Bull (4), Lucy Rogers (2), Alexa Blake (2), Holly Doran (2), Kelly Jefferies and Hanna Brixton.

Falmouth’s attack would have scored more goals if the Mannamead goalkeeper had not been in such good form.

The midfield worked hard to keep the visitors penned into their own half and when they did occasionally break through, the defence was ready to clear to leave ‘keeper Amie Cadwell a mere spectator.

Falmouth II: A Cadwell, F Rowe, S Williams, M Rodda, K Day, C Watts-Jones, B Row, E Heather, H Brixton, H Doran, S Bull, A Blake, K Jefferies, L Logan.

l Both teams travel to Lipson College, Plymouth on Saturday. The firsts play Plymouth University at 12pm while the seconds face Plym Valley at 10.30am.
