Back-rower Matt Bolwell and wing Alex O’Meara are the latest two Cornish Pirates to have signed new contracts with the club. Matt has signed for a further two years and Alex for one.

Matt, a former Truro College student who started his rugby at Wadebridge Camels and later became a member of the Exeter Chiefs Academy, also represented England U17s and U18s and has in the past played for Exeter Braves in the ‘A ‘ league.

Injuries had unfortunately hampered Matt’s playing time after he made his debut for the Cornish Pirates at the start of the 2013/14 season, however recovering to full fitness the 23-year-old has made 22 appearances for the club during this campaign, to take his overall games tally to 82.

Wing Alex, aged 25, is a former Ireland under 20s and England Students player who signed for the Cornish Pirates as a Player Development Foundation (PDF) member in 2015.

He enjoyed a first taste of club rugby with Camberley RFC, before choosing to study for a degree at Hartpury College. He would then represent them, playing in the National Leagues and the BUCS League.

During his three seasons with the Pirates Alex has to date made 71 appearances and scored 35 tries.
