Wendron United 2, Bere Alston United 0

WENDRON United moved up to seventh in the South West Peninsula League Division 1 West table after a 2-0 win at home to Bere Alston United on Saturday.

Mike O'Neil and Cameron Wheat put the Dron two up at the break, but the howling wind and rain in their faces in the second half meant that the hosts could not convert any of many good chances to add to their lead.

The win, coupled with victory over Bude last week, means that Wendron have risen three places to seventh in the space of a week with games in hand over a number of sides around them.

Wendron had the wind with them in the first half and wasted no time in using it to their advantage, with O'Neil converting Wheat's low cross at the back post.

The elements affected the quality of the game with little action in the rest of the half until five minutes before the break, when Hayden Fuller's floated cross was spilled by the 'keeper

TJ Walter did have the chance to add a third before the break but put his effort wide when one-on-one with the visiting 'keeper.

The hosts took the game to their opponents in the second half but could not find the back of the net, striking the crossbar and post in the process.

Walter and O'Neil had the best of their chances, while Cameron Wheat put in a strong performance on the left flank.

Dan Stedman had little to do in the Wendron goal, but did make two excellent stops from a long distance effort and from a one-on-one to preserve his side's clean sheet.

Wendron: D Stedman, J Burtenshaw, H Fuller, J Webb (R Carroll), S Humphries, T Martin (W Paul), B Ringrose, J Stocker, C Wheat, T Walter, M O'Neil (M Trise).
