Truro City 0, Chelmsford City 3

TRURO City now sit just once point above the National League South relegation places after a disappointing 0-3 reverse to Chelmsford City at Treyew Road, writes Cameron Weldon.

With defeats at the hands of East Thurrock United and Dulwich Hamlet respectively in the last two weeks, City needed a response and they started brightly.

Captain for the day Tyler Harvey headed a free kick from Connor Riley-Lowe wide of the mark before Jason Banton found himself in acres of room but the winger failed to hit the target as his effort went narrowly wide of the post.

Those missed chances nearly came back to haunt Truro, as Scott Fenwick had a header hit the post only for the rebound to fall to Thomas Wright whose first attempt was brilliant saved by Cory Harvey before his second went way over the bar.

Chelmsford did eventually get their goal on 35 minutes when Fenwick got in behind the Truro backline and picked out Rhys Murphy who tapped the ball home from close range to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Falmouth Packet:

The visitors started the second half like they finished the first and should have made it 0-2. Wright was one-on-one with Cory Harvey but the striker’s effort went well over the bar after the Truro keeper did well to make himself big.

Truro then got their best chances of the game. Tyler Harvey did well out wide to pick out his strike partner Jared Lewington who saw his effort blocked on the line for a corner.

Billy Knott then had a corner avoid everyone and rattled the woodwork before Chelmsford got their second a minute later. Chez Isaac was the man on hand to slot home past a helpless Cory Harvey after a good cross from Barnum Bobb.

Things went from bad for worse for the home side as keeper Cory Harvey saw a straight red card for what appeared to be dangerous conduct as he tried to take his kick. Jason Banton was the unlucky sole to be replaced for Harvey Rivers as the referee awarded a penalty and gave the visitors a chance to wrap up the game. Murphy made no mistake from the spot effectively killing the match.

Falmouth Packet:

The White Tigers looked to get back into the game through substitute Niall Thompson who couldn’t direct a Connor Riley-Lowe cross goalward while Tyler Harvey who endured a very frustrating afternoon up top had an effort go way wide after being played through.

Chelmsford looked threatening on the break and had a number of chances to make it four, but the fourth never came and they secured a huge three points in their play off race.

As for Truro, that’s now three straight defeats and they now sit just a point clear of the relegation places. They face a long journey to Dartford next Saturday as the battle for survival heats up.
