Holsworthy 1, Porthleven 1
PORTHLEVEN's flagging South West Peninsula League Division 1 West title ambitions suffered yet another blow after they were held to a draw at Holsworthy on Saturday.
Taren Stacey put the hosts in front, and although top-scorer Matt Drummond levelled for the visitors before the break, it was to be another two dropped points for Port.
It could have been different for the Fishermen had they taken advantage of an early penalty award, but Holsworthy 'keeper Ryan Walter saved the spot kick.
Buoyed by that penalty save, the home side went on to take the lead when Stacey got on the end of a long throw and fired home his first goal for the club.
But Port were back on terms before the break, with a cross reaching Drummond who planted it past Walter for his 22nd league goal of the season.
Neither side could find another way through in the second half, with both teams having to settle for a point that does neither team any favours.
- Liskeard Athletic took full advantage and extended their lead at top of the table to four points after beating Bude Town 3-1, while still enjoying two games in hand over the Fishermen.
Port will now be nervously looking over their shoulders with third-placed Mousehole thrashing Wadebridge United 6-0 to close the gap on Alan Carey's side to just two points. The Seagulls have won all eight of their league games in 2019 and also have two games in hand over Port.
