Barnes’ scrum-half Josh Davies got in amongst his forwards in the dying minutes of the game to score the decisive try that allowed fly-half Josh Hammett to kick the match winning conversion, writes Bill Hooper.
It proved to be a hugely frustrating afternoon for the Redruth faithful as their side put in a disappointing, ill-disciplined performance.
Barnes played down the slope first half and despite falling behind to a Redruth penalty, kicked by full-back Aaron Simmonds, they were soon level when Hammett replied in kind.
Barnes pressure led to Redruth losing the influential centre Pale Nonu to the sin bin on the half-hour mark and the visitors took full advantage, scoring a try through skipper Jamie Collins.
Redruth’s woes were compounded when they lost Simmonds to a red card for a dangerous tackle.
Barnes capitalised scoring a second try from another drive through prop Alistair Ryan with Hammett adding the extras for a useful 15-3 lead at the break.
Redruth looked to claw back their deficit. They eventually got some reward as wing Dean Bonds got in amongst the forward to score in the corner as Barnes lost lock Matt Steele to a yellow card.
Scrum-half Jack Oulton looked to put Redruth on the front foot kicking to the corner from a penalty which led to a penalty-try to the home side.
Redruth looked to have saved the game when centre Jack Simmons scored following good work from hooker Richard Brown and Nonu, but crucially the conversion was disallowed by the referee.
Back came Barnes to score the winning try and survive a late penalty attempt from Oulton which sailed wide.
