Drybrook 31, Camborne 22

Drybrook’s bonus point win put some distance between themselves and third bottom Cleve after a strong second half showing to see off a determined Camborne.

The Cherry & Whites led 12-8 at the break but the hungry home side eventually got on top in a hard fought third quarter.

After going behind to an early penalty the visitors bagged the opening try when half-back Taron Peacock switched play off the base of a scrum to set up left wing Alex Ducker.

Although Drybrook then edged 8-7 up ‘Town’ regained the advantage when the prolific Ducker seized on a wayward pass to go over from halfway and Rhys Brownfield knocked over the extras.

Early in the second period a converted score for the home side was swiftly answered with fly-half Brownfield’s penalty to tie the scores at 15 points apiece.

A brace of home penalties and a converted try took the score to 28-15 before Camborne got back in contention after a catch and drive ended with the ball being moved to full-back Harvey Bell who showed his strength with a good finish. Brownfield’s conversion got the Cherry & Whites into bonus point territory at 28-22.

With Camborne chasing the game late on the home side were grateful for a late penalty to seal their vital victory.
