Falmouth 2, Newquay 3

Falmouth suffered an agonising Cornwall County Cup Final defeat to Newquay at Penzance on Saturday.

Falmouth got off to a strong start and dominated play in the first half, with Clare Hudson’s strike being brilliantly deflected in by Faye Ivall to give them the lead.

Newquay were able to convert a short corner for the equaliser but Falmouth remained in control and regained the lead via their own short corner, which Hudson was able to confidently smash into the backboard.

Newquay came out strong in the second half and earned a second equaliser after overloading the attack and catching the Falmouth defence off guard.

With the score now 2-2 both teams were hungry to be the next to score, but unfortunately for Falmouth it was Newquay who were able to do so, with the defending champions holding on despite Falmouth having a goal disallowed in the last few minutes.

Falmouth: H Mathias, M Cookson, L Heather, N Hinton, F Ivall, R Ivall, N Oliver, T Godwin, D Burnford, A Nickels, V Pryor, A Shaw, C Hudson.

Falmouth II 2, Caradon III 1

Falmouth seconds left it late to claim victory in the Cornwall County Plate against Caradon thirds, with the winning goal coming only three minutes before the final whistle.

Pre-match favourites Falmouth found it difficult to score against a determined Caradon team and their inspired ‘keeper, who made a number of great saves.

Caradon took the lead after the break when an unlucky deflection off a Falmouth defender crossed the line into goal.

Falmouth upped their game and levelled midway through the half. Hanna Brixton drove in from the right, found space at the edge of the D and powered a shot into the far corner.

Falmouth’s winner came from a short corner, with Becky Row teeing up Suzanne Bull who had time to pick her spot and fire into the bottom right corner.

Falmouth: A Cadwell, K Day, F Rowe, S Williams, R Medd, B Row, H Brixton, H Doran, K Jefferies, S Bull, L Cross, A Blake, I Robson, Y Cornish, M Rodda, J Moore.
