Falmouth Town 2, Millbrook 2

Falmouth Town rounded off their South West Peninsula League Premier campaign with a draw at home to Millbrook on Saturday.

Town, who lifted the Cornwall Senior Cup five days earlier, fell behind through Curtis Damerell on the half-hour before Matt Buchan levelled two minutes later. David Broglino completed the turnaround in the second half but Jacob Foster snatched a late equaliser.

Town finish sixth in the table and some 17 points off St Austell in fifth, but have that Senior Cup crown to show for their season, with the League Cup final still to come next weekend.

After a quiet opening quarter it was Millbrook who had the first meaningful shot, with Ryan Barnes called into action to save at the foot of his post.

But the visitors did edge ahead on the half-hour mark as Town paid the price for failing to clear, with Damerell able to fire in from 12 yards.

But the hosts were back on terms just two minutes later, with Tim Nixon beating two players and crossing for Buchan to send a looping header into the corner at the far post.

Buchan nearly turned provider when his cross looked destined for Jack Bowyer, but visiting ‘keeper Chris Wearing was able to get there first.

Nixon tested Wearing with a powerful strike after the break before Barnes made another vital save at the other end.

Town looked like ending their campaign with another win when Broglino smashed Buchan’s cross home from eight yards midway through the half.

But it was not to be as Millbrook scrambled home an equaliser with seven minutes to play., with Foster eventually prodding the ball over the line to rescue a point for the visitors.
