Falmouth 149 all out (32.5) lost to Wadebridge 314-7 (50) by 165 runs

FALMOUTH suffered a heavy defeat at home to Wadebridge on the opening day of the 2019 Cornwall Cricket League Premier Division season.

Wadebridge set their hosts 315 to win but Falmouth could only manage 149 in reply before being bowled out in the 33rd over.

Falmouth are still without a win this year after losing all eight of their Tribute T20 Kernow Crash matches over the last four weeks.

Falmouth won the toss and chose to field, with Matthew Joliffe and Sam Richards reaching 41 before the latter was caught by Richard Kellow off Steven Redwood’s delivery.

Joliffe was next to go but the visitors had reached 144 by that point with Joliffe scoring 64 off 95 balls as he and Kevin Renecke enjoyed a 103-run stand.

Kellow caught Renecke, who ended up with 53, soon after but his replacement James Turpin came in and top-scored with a superb 103 off 58 balls to steer Wadebridge towards an excellent 314-7.

Falmouth’s reply began slowly with the early loss of opener Grant Stone for just five runs.

Rohit Venkateshan (16) soon followed with Harry Roberts (5) also falling quickly as the hosts reached 41-3.

Stefan Churcher made 21 before Kellow was dismissed for a duck as Falmouth slumped to 63-5.

Scott Kellow and Oliver Paull tried to offer some hope for the home side with 41 and 21 respectively before both were caught off Charlie Ellis deliveries, with the Wadebridge bowler taking 5-27.

The lower order was unable to salvage the innings with Falmouth reaching 149 as the final wicket fell and defeat was confirmed.
