Helston continued their return to form in County Division 1 with a nail-biting one wicket victory at Redruth seconds.

Redruth, who had lost just one of their previous seven games, reached 203-8 after their 50 overs, with Helston surpassing that total in the final ball of their reply to secure their third successive win and fourth in their last five.

Helston won the toss and put their hosts in to bat, with Redruth getting off to a strong start as they reached 116-2. Opener Mark Jenkin hit a match high of 57, while Arron Wallace (24) and Will Trenoweth (23) added respectable scores.

Connor Poulton added eight before he was run out by Stephen Wiseman, with Harry Bolland (20), Thomas Burford (13) and Craig Williams (26) taking the home side towards the 200 mark.

Jarrod Hambly (10no) and Joseph Cockings (2no) adding the final runs as Redruth reached 203-8.

Dario Cumberbatch led the bowling charts with three wickets for 42 runs. Steve Jenkin and Will Jenkin both claimed two wickets apiece.

Will Jenkin was dismissed early in Helston’s reply, falling for just one run off 17 balls.

Karl Leathley added 24 off 38 balls to steady his side’s start, although Owen Holton and Justin Matthews fell for 16 and 12 respectively.

But Ross Leathley, after hitting 104 not out in last week’s win over Rosudgeon, stepped up to the plate again to add a valuable 39 to the cause before he was stumped by Hambly.

Wiseman contributed 28 before being dismissed in the same manner, but Steve Jenkin, batting at seven, scored 42 off 28 balls to put his side level with the hosts on 203-8.

Joshua Ninnis (18), was then bowled by Williams with the score still level, but Steve Eddy came in and added that final run to see the visitors over the line in the final ball of the game.
