Helston’s hopes of a fourth successive County Division 1 victory were ended by the rain in their match at Werrington seconds on Saturday.

Helston had bowled their hosts out for just 94 in the 31st over, and were well on their way to beating that total at 43-1 after 16 overs, but had to settle for 12 points when the rain came down.

Werrington were put in to bat by the visitors and lost openers Nicolas Adams and Scott Taskis for ducks, with Helston bowler Dario Cumberbatch claiming both wickets.

Cumberbatch continued his excellent start with the wickets of John Moon (4) and Ben Jenkin (5) as Werrington reached 16-4.

Sam Hockin scored 38 off 48 balls to add some respectability to the score until he was caught by Karl Leathley off Steve Jenkin’s delivery.

But the rest of the Werrington order faded fast, with Mark Taylor (12) the only other member to reach double figures as the hosts were bowled out for 94. Cumberbatch ended the innings with figures of 5-22 while Bradley Bury claimed 3-12.

Leathley was dismissed for a duck off just four balls at the start of Helston’s reply, but William Jenkin (11no) and Justin Matthews (22no) took the visitors to 43-1 when play came to an end at the 16-over mark.
