Helston continued their fine run of form in County Division 1 with a 131-run win at home to Ludgvan.

Helston set their opponents 224 to win but bowled them out for just 92 to pick up their fourth win in five matches.

Will Jenkin was an early casualty for Helston when he was run out by Michael Fitchett for four runs, with Justin Matthews adding seven before he was bowled out by the same man.

But Karl and Ross Leathley hit 35 and 33 respectively to steer Helston towards the century, although Stephen Wiseman (0) and Steve Jenkin (9) departed in the meantime.

Ben Rule came in at seven and hit 52 not out to put the home side in a better position, with Joshua Ninnis (15) and Dario Cumberbatch (10) adding double figures before Bradley Bury’s 32 saw Helston to 223-9 at the end of their innings.

Ludgvan struggled in their reply and lost their opening four batsmen for single-figure returns. Alex Westren (0) was out first ball before Kyle Stevens (5), Scott Stevens (8) and Fitchett (7) all departed as the visitors reached 53-4, thanks mostly to 34 runs of extras, which was indeed their top scorer.

The four wickets were shared by Cumberbatch and Steve Eddy, while Bury took 2-9 and Will Jenkin took 3-18.

Jon Olds was one of two players to score double figures, hitting 14 before he was Bury’s first victim, although Jenkin had claimed Damon Nicholls (2) and Josh Stevens (0) in the interim as Ludgvan edged to 69-7.

Kieran Brownfield added one more run before he was dismissed by Jenkin, with Josh Hosking managing the same before he was caught by Matthews off Bury’s delivery.

Ryan Eddy managed 20 not out to take Ludgvan past 90, but Steve Jenkin claimed the final wicket of the day, taking Jacob Trudgeon for a duck as Helston sealed an emphatic victory.
