Helston’s unbeaten run in County Division 1 ended in remarkable style, with a spectacular batting collapse paving the way for a four-wicket defeat at Lanhydrock.

Although they had reached 62 when the first wicket fell, Helston’s batting order dropped like flies as the visitors slumped to 64-8 before eventually being bowled out for 86 in the 26th over.

Lanhydrock lost six wickets in response as they reached their target with just over half of their overs remaining.

Helston won the toss and chose to bat first, with Karl Leathley (37) and William Jenkin (21) enjoying a 62-run stand before the former was caught by Simon Benney off Chris Rogers’ delivery.

But that was as good as it got for the visitors, as seven more wickets fell in the time it took to add just two more runs.

Holton was lbw off Ruben Turner’s ball for a duck after just two balls, with Jenkin adding one run to his total before falling the same way off Rogers’ delivery.

Rogers was the star for the home side as he went on to a sensational eight wickets for just 12 runs. He claimed Ross Leathley with an lbw for a golden duck before needing only two more balls to dismiss Steve Jenkin.

Justin Matthews managed 12 balls but could not manage any runs before he was lbw off Turner, before Rogers returned to bowl both Ben Rule and Chris Martin for ducks as Helston reached 64-8.

That one additional run had come from Dario Cumberbatch, who managed 11 more before he became Rogers’ eighth and Lanhydrock’s tenth wicket, with Bradley Bury adding five in the meantime as Helston’s humiliation was complete.

Lanhydrock’s opening pair of James Maycock and James Starkie-Old got the hosts halfway there with a 49-run stand before Maycock was bowled by Steve Jenkin.

Jenkin went on to take five wickets for just 27 runs, but it was not to be enough to save his side.

He took George Smith (8) before Claiming Fergus Baker for a duck off just two balls, while Bury ran out Starkie-Old for 26.

Jenkin dismissed Ben Attfield (4) and Chris Rogers (6) to give Helston a glimmer of hope at 72-6, but Jamie Eldridge (13no) and Simon Benney (3no) got the home side over the line in the 25th over.
