HARLAIN Mbayo scored the winning goal as Truro City beat Falmouth Town to regain the Aubrey Wilkes Trophy.

Rio Garside gave Truro the lead just before the break but Jack Bowyer levelled for Falmouth midway through the second half.

But parity was brief as Mbayo headed in Garside's cross from six yards two minutes later to seal victory.

The game kicked into life in the ninth minutes with Stewart Yetton heading just wide for the home side before Tim Nixon went up the end and shot at goal. His shot was saved by James Haman and cleared off the line by Harrison Davis.

Truro then enjoyed a spell of pressure with Yetton almost firing the hosts in front, before Moulaye Ndiaye headed wide from a corner.

City centre-back James Ward almost managed a goal against his former side when the Truro man fired at goal at the back of the six-yard box, but Falmouth 'keeper Steve Parker-Billinge was able to turn it away.

But Garside opened the scoring in the 39th minute with an excellent individual goal, with his mazy run taking him past the visiting defence before he fired into the bottom corner.

The hosts missed a big chance to extend their lead four minutes into the second half, with Garside firing Ryan Law's low cross over the bar at the back post.

Louis Rooney missed an even better chance to score minutes later when he was gifted the ball inside the box, but he was denied by Parker-Billinge.

Those misses came back to haunt them as Town equalised midway through the half. Bowyer, fresh from the bench, won the ball inside the box and beat a defender before slamming the ball home.

Town's joy was short-lived as Truro instantly regained the lead. Garside sent in an excellent cross and Ndiaye headed in from six yards.

Town tried to equalise again but struggled to fashion any clear-cut chances, with Niall Thompson coming close with a 35-yard effort for Truro late on.

Falmouth's evening was completed when coach Charlie Davis was sent off by referee Stuart Kane towards the end.
