FALMOUTH suffered a heavy 164-run defeat at title-chasing Redruth in their latest Cornwall Premier League match.

The hosts raced to an impressive 321-6 from their 50 overs before bowling Falmouth out for 157 in the 42nd over.

Bottom side Falmouth are now 14 points adrift of nearest rivals Callington, after they picked up seven points from their 23-run defeat at St Austell.

Falmouth won the toss and chose to field, with the hosts reaching 80 before opener Sam Wyatt (40) became the first wicket.

Piran Kent (63) stepped in and he and Toby Whiteford enjoyed a 144-run stand before the former was caught by Louis Rudin. Christian Purchase added 14 before he departed, with Whiteford the next to fall after reaching 131 off 132 balls.

Will Trenoweth came in and hit 34 not out to see the hosts past the 300-mark at the end of their innings.

James Williamson and Scott Kellow claimed two wickets apiece, with Sajjad Jabarkhel and Richard Kellow taking one each.

Grant Stone made just seven runs at the start of Falmouth's reply before he became the first of Peter Howells' four catches. Oliver Paull came in and made two before he was dismissed in the same manner.

Stone's fellow opener Scott Kellow scored a decent 34 from 34 balls, with Richard Kellow adding 27 to the cause.

Aidan Carter made an innings-high of 37, but saw James Williamson (2), Ewan Wilson (11), Louis Rudin (5) and Caidan Howell (0) depart cheaply in the meantime.

Trevelyan Ward added a late 21 before he was run out, before Carter's dismissal in the 42nd over brought an end to the innings and the match.
