WENDRON United rounded off their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 win over South West Peninsula League Premier East club Ivybridge Town.

The Devon side led after three minutes but TJ Walter levelled the scores before the break. Scott Palmer put Wendron in front early in the second half before Jack Stocker made it three, with a late Ivies goal a mere consolation.

The visitors got their noses in front early on when a cross was volleyed home from six yards.

Ivybridge were on top but Walter almost levelled when he cut in and fired a grass-cutter against the inside of the right post.

The Ivies nearly doubled their lead soon after when their striker got between the two centre-backs, but a combination of good defending and a lucky ricochet saw the ball run clear.

But it was the home side who got the next goal midway through the half, with Walter's ball in from the right finding its way into the far corner, thanks in part to a deflection.

Wendron conceded a rare indirect free-kick in the box after a passback, which, after a short delay when organising the wall, was eventually cleared after some head tennis around the six-yard box.

The hosts won an indirect free-kick of their own early in the second half after an Ivybridge passback, with Stocker teeing up Palmer to slam it into the corner from eight yards.

Wendron dominated for much of the second half but could not add to their lead, with Quirke, Finn Robinson and Reece Carroll all missing the target.

They finally doubled their lead on 73 minutes when Quirke burst through and saw his shot blocked, but laid off the rebound to Stocker, who cut inside and fired into the corner.

The visitors had hope late on when they drilled in from a tight angle following a corner, but Wendron held on to finish their pre-season campaign with another win.
