Beacon Cricket Club’s U13 team is looking the part thanks to sponsorship from David Moyle of Beacon Butchers who has generously supplied them with new playing shirts.

The Cornish Cricket League allows youth teams to wear whatever colour they like when they take the field, and thanks to the support of Beacon Butchers, Beacon’s U13s will don the club’s green and gold for the next three years.

Beacon Cricket Club’s youth section has experienced significant growth since it became an All Stars Centre in 2017. The ECB’s All Stars programme aims to encourage boys and girls aged five to eight to play the game, providing fun softball sessions throughout the summer.

Starting with 14 young cricketers in 2017, Beacon’s All Stars have now more than doubled to over 30 players and over the same period the influx of young cricketers has seen Beacon enter U9 Festivals and the U13 team in the Cornish Cricket League.

David Moyle, from Beacon Butchers in Beacon village square, said: “I was really keen to do something for the youth teams at the club. The ground is just behind us and it’s been fantastic to see so many young people and their parents coming into the village, they obviously love their cricket!”

Darren Proctor, Head Youth Coach and Chairman at Beacon Cricket Club, said: “We are incredibly grateful to David at Beacon Butchers. It’s fantastic to see so many young people getting involved at the club and allowing the U13s to play in matching team shirts and club colours means so much to them!”

Beacon Butchers is the latest in a long line of sponsors to offer their support to the club. Just last year Beacon Fish and Chips presented the clubs U9 and U11 teams with their first set of playing shirts and the number of sponsors boards and advertisers within the ground continues to grow.

Darren said: “The support from local businesses and the community over the last couple of years has been a massive boost to the club, we can’t thank them enough.

“Our recent World Cup party and cricket festival on June 30 saw Under 9 teams from Beacon, Camborne, Redruth, Hayle and Newquay compete against each other in the morning and it was fantastic to see patrons of the Beacon Inn here in the afternoon for our Pub v Club T20. Hundreds of people came through the gate over the course of the day and it’s encouraging the see that the club is becoming a firm part of the local community."

Beacon CC’s next event is its sponsors day which will take place when the first 11 take on neighbours Camborne from 1pm on September 7. A player reunion will follow in the bar after the game with the doors open to anyone who would like to attend.
