FA Vase: Helston Athletic to host Falmouth Town

The tie will be played at Kellaway Park on Saturday, October 12.

Although the two sides have met regularly in the South West Peninsula League over the past few seasons, it will be the first time that the two local rivals have met in a national cup competition.

The Blues have prevailed in the teams' last four meetings, with the most recent coming just 12 days ago when Helston won 2-1 at Bickland Park in the league.

Town booked their place in the first round draw for the second season running with a 3-1 victory at fellow Cornish club St Blazey on Saturday.

Luke Brabyn and Olly Walker put Town two goals up at the break before Tim Nixon all but sealed progression with a third early in the second half.

Levi Landricombe replied for the hosts but Town held out to reach next month's first round.

Victory over the Blues next month would see Falmouth equal last year's run to the second round proper – their best run since 2012.

Goals in either half from Scott Beattie and Mark Goldsworthy saw the Blues edge past a determined South West Peninsula League Premier East side Axminster Town side in their second qualifying round tie at Kellaway Park on Saturday.

Victory for Helston in the derby would see them into the second round proper for the first time in their history.

Falmouth and Helston are two of just six Cornish sides left in the competition. Porthleven's second qualifying round conquerors Saltash United have been drawn at local rivals Torpoint Athletic, while Camelford host Buckland Athletic of the Western League Premier.

The only other remaining Cornish side, St Austell, begin their campaign in November's second round proper after reaching the fourth round last year.

The first round proper sees the 230 remaining clubs in this year's competition reduced to 128.

The winning club from each of the 102 ties will receive £825, while the losers will receive £275.
