Falmouth Town manager Andrew Westgarth was delighted with his side's "nigh on perfect" September, which ended with a 4-2 win at home to Newquay on Friday night.

The month began with a 2-1 home defeat to local rivals Helston Athletic, but Luke Brabyn's hat-trick and Ryan Martt's header secured Town's fifth win on the bounce since that defeat to the Blues.

"Great recovery isn't it?" Westgarth said. "I spoke about how difficult our August has been, but on the flip side our September has been nigh on perfect other than the defeat to Helston. I thought tonight just summed us up, that is Falmouth Town.

"I thought Newquay were good, one of the best Newquay sides I've seen for a long time, they get the ball, knock it around.

"There were a few hairy moments in the first half and we spoke to the boys at half-time, a few things needed to change and second half I thought we were excellent. We soaked up a lot of pressure, looked great on the counter attack, looked great going forward, every time we went forward I thought we were always going to do something.

"No surprise that Brabyn gets a great hat-trick, he was a constant menace and he epitomised everything that we were about tonight."

Brabyn grabbed the headlines with his fantastic treble, made all the more impressive given that is not his main position.

The winger has frequently played as a lone striker in the absence of first-team strikers Matt Buchan and Jack Bowyer, and with both unavailable for Friday night's game, Brabyn stepped into that role again and deservedly picked up the man-of-the-match award.

"We've always got so much confidence in our squad, it's just when everyone's here," Westgarth said. "I think a few people might have raised their eyebrows today that we've got no strikers and had to put Brabyn up there, but anyone that watches or knows what Falmouth Town are about will know that we've got great players that can play in multiple positions.

Westgarth reserved praise for his opponents, who did well to level on two occasions and were unlucky not to be ahead at half-time, with the Peppermints looking lively and pushing Town all the way.

"I thought their front three were really lively," he said. "I thought Jack Bray-Evans took his goal really well, that second one was a great finish, I was right in line with it.

"They always looked lively going forward and they're well organised and a real hard side to break down and they're going to do well this year.

"Macca's [Newquay boss Tony MacKellar] probably in the same situation where I am in a way, I feel so sorry for him with the amount of injuries he's got because I'd imagine with a full side they could cause a lot of problems."
