A brace on his return from Tyler Harvey helped Truro City secure a 3-0 win over Hayes and Yeading United at Treyew Road, writes Cameron Weldon.

Two Harvey strikes put City in the driving seat before Luke Jephcott smashed in a third late on to secure three points.

After crashing out of the cup away at Hereford last week City wanted a response and a response was exactly what they got.

Tyler Harvey making his first appearance since re-joining the club from Bath City last week opened the scoring after just sixteen minutes.

The striker latched onto a loose ball and fired low into the bottom corner to put Truro ahead.

He then had the ball in the back of the net again with a volley from outside the area, but this time was ruled out for an offside against Niall Thompson.

The offside flag wouldn’t stop him from getting his second on the half hour mark when the centre forward finished well from a Will Dean corner to double the White Tigers lead.

Austen Booth made an excellent last-ditch tackle to deny Hayes an opening while Luke Jephcott saw a shot inside the area well blocked.

Into the second period the rain kept coming and the conditions started to worsen.

Niall Thompson saw a header from an inviting Jephcott cross saved by Mark Childs in the Hayes goal.

Thompson was involved again soon after as he was fouled just outside the box. Tyler Harvey on a hattrick stepped up but fired his shot just over the cross bar.

James Hamon, who had on the whole a rather quiet afternoon was called into action to stop James Clark in his tracks as the keeper looked to keep his sixth clean sheet of the season.

Truro added a late third through Luke Jephcott, who slotted home with aplomb from close range to secure victory for the White Tigers.

City remain in fourth place just two points of leaders Poole Town who they welcome to Treyew Road in three week’s time.

City are back in action again on Tuesday as they travel across the border to face Barnstaple Town on Tuesday night in the Southern League Cup before visiting Yate Town in the league next Saturday.

Truro: Hamon, Davis, Law, Booth (Rooney 70), Mbayo, Richards (c), Dean, Keats, Harvey, Thompson, Jephcott.
