HELSTON Athletic’s history-making run in the FA Youth Cup came to an end at the hands of English Football League Two side Forest Green Rovers in their first round proper tie.

The Blues made their debut appearance in the national first round proper after navigating four qualifying rounds to set up the tie at the EFL League Two side, but succumbed to a 5-0 defeat at The New Lawn.

Destiny Oladipo settled the higher-division hosts with an early goal before doubling the lead midway through the half.

Daniel Bradshaw all but sealed the tie in the final moments of the first half, with Dylan Morgan and Oladipo adding gloss to the score late on.

The hosts were the first to settle, perhaps exploiting some nerves in the Helston ranks, took the early lead in the fourth minute with Daniel Ogunleye’s fine cross being headed home from six yards by Oladipo.

Helston eventually got a foothold in the game and had a good chance to level when Lewis Tonkin closed down Rovers 'keeper Louis Owens' clearance with a defender just about clearing the danger, before captain Harrison Jewell shot wide from distance after a good break by Alex Wharton.

Rovers, whose first team sit fourth in EFL League Two, saw a huge chance to double their lead go begging on 15 minutes when Tyler Buckley miscued a clearance, with Daniel Jones racing in to fire just wide of the right post.

But just as Helston were steadying themselves in the game, the found themselves 2-0 down in the 21st minute, when their inability to clear their lines allowed Oladipo two bites of the cherry inside the box, with the second finding the back of Kieran Daughtery’s net.

The Blues tried to wrestle themselves back into the tie and enjoyed a spell of pressure, with a corner looking destined for Tonkin to head home but for a crucial header.

But Rovers, six divisions above the Blues, squandered a huge chance to make it three shortly before the break when Ogunleye bore down on goal and forced a good save from Daughtery, with the follow-up shot from Bradshaw being headed onto the underside of the crossbar by Tyler Buckley and away.

Helston suffered a potentially fatal blow in the final action of the half as a fine one-two on the edge of the box ended with Bradshaw smashing in a shot at Daughtery's near post.

Despite the relative mountain to climb, Helston were quick out of the traps after the break with Tonkin bursting through and having a shot blocked, with play coming back from a free kick for the same man to fire into the wall.

Daniel Jones saw a good opportunity to fire in a fourth pass him by, with his shot from the edge of the box flying over Daughtery's crossbar, before Oladipo, on a hat-trick, turned Jewell inside the box and fired over at the near post.

Rovers finally secured a deserved fourth with five minutes left of the 90, with substitute Morgan sending a fine shot inside the far post from the edge of the box.

Helston kept plugging away in an attempt to find a late consolation, with Oscar Marks getting two bites of the cherry at the near post in injury-time, but both were snuffed out by a defender.

But the hosts completed a fine night from their point of view with a fifth goal deep in added time, when a lapse in Blues concentration allows Oladipo a clean run to fire past Daughtery and complete his hat-trick.
