The ‘Geoff Cock Memorial Match’, played annually between a Pirates Holiday XV and Cocky’s Pirates took place at a muddy Mennaye Nurseries pitch on Boxing Day, writes Phil Westren.
Geoff was a former Pirates Colts player, Cornish Pirates steward and youth team coach who sadly passed away in 2008, aged 61.
This match proved competitive, close and entertaining, with Cocky’s Pirates, for whom Geoff’s son Matthew played, emerging narrow 24-22 winners.
Scorers were as follows:
Cocky’s Pirates – tries: Jack Vosper (2), Ryan Forrester, Ben Brooks; cons: Dan Lugg (2).
Pirates Holiday XV – tries: Sam, Coogan, James Lambourn, Daniel-Rhys Evans, Charlie Tod; con: Dom Willcox.
Despite the weather there was a good turnout for this latest Memorial Match, with several players that Geoff had coached taking part. It was also busy in the Pirates ‘Westholme’ clubhouse afterwards.
