Camborne 19, Barnstaple 48

Camborne, hard hit by injuries and unavailabilities, went down to a heavy defeat against promotion favourites Barnstaple at a wet and windswept Recreation Ground.

As a result Barnstaple strengthen their grip on top spot whilst the Cherry & Whites slip to 6th position in the South West Premier table.

Camborne will look to bounce back this weekend when they make the long trip to bottom of the league Bracknell.

The visitors were well clear by half time after capitalising on the elements playing down the slope going out of sight at 31-7 with the try bonus point in the bag.

Barnstaple made a dream start going 12-0 up in the opening minutes but ‘Town’ battled back into contention early in the 2nd quarter creating a good try for centre Harvey Bell well converted by fly half Jake Champion.

Crucially however the home side conceded again almost immediately and the visitors added two more tries late in the half.

A long range touchdown soon after the break effectively ended the contest and a further score for the visitors saw their lead up to 41-7.

In the final quarter Camborne rallied but conceded again before late on wing Rhodri Mcatee raced over for two well taken consolation tries the latter converted by full back David Mankee.
