Penryn Ath 3, Marazion 0
Penryn Athletic staged one of only two senior soccer matches in Cornwall on Saturday when they defeated Marazion 3-0 in the Jolly’s Combination League.
Having lost to Marazion in October, they duly avenged that reverse while at the same time moved into second place in the table, their highest position of the season.
The game appeared to be heading for a goalless draw as it trundled along in the second half until Wayne Brown fired Athletic in front.
Gary Braunton’s header doubled the lead with six minutes to go, before Kenny Gunn completed the scoring with two minutes remaining.
Penryn 16, University of Bristol 11
Penryn put their Cheltenham blues behind them on Sunday morning when they entertained University of Bristol on a very wet Memorial Ground and recorded a welcome victory with a last-minute try. This was only their second victory in the last eight games.
Borough fly half Stephen Trethowan kicked a penalty either side of opposite number Gareth Williams’ own pair of kicks to keep the scores locked at 6-6 at the break.
James Instance gave the hosts the lead in the second half when he raced over, only for James Ralph to respond with a try of his own, but Scott Pedlar’s last-gasp try secured the win in the closing minutes.
