Falmouth Town 7, Exmouth Town 0 - SWPL Premier, March 2016

GLEN Squires had an afternoon he will never forget after scoring five times in what was a much-needed victory for the hosts in the SWPL Premier on Saturday.

After four games without a win, Town roared back into life with a thumping victory and a memorable individual display for the striker.

Falmouth made light of the several absent regulars with a second-half goal frenzy, scoring four goals in 10 second-half minutes as everything they struck turned to gold.

The rout began as early as the second minute, when Squires picked the ball up in midfield and advanced into the penalty area before slotting it past keeper Luke Ashford.

Town doubled their lead after 17 minutes when Ed Timmons found Squires on the left hand side and he pulled the ball back for Rob Wearne to smash home from six yards.

Exmouth rallied for 10 minutes without producing a cutting edge, before Tom Whipp’s goalbound shot was cleared off the line.

Early in the second period Ryan Barnes made a fine save from a free-kick and three minutes later the second half avalanche began.

Wearne found Squires who rounded the keeper and finished from six yards.

Dan Greet added his name to the scoresheet with 19 minutes to go when he burst on to a flick-on from Squires following a long ball.

Four became five with quarter of an hour left when Squires produced an expertly taken lob and two minutes later he reacted quickest to steer home a deflected cross from Tripconey.

Substitute Andy Westgarth then beat his marker and crossed for Squires to nudge the ball over the line with his chest, rounding off a spectacular afternoon.
