Another good crowd attended to support this clash from last season's top two teams in the Cornwall Women's Football League (CWFL). Helston who were missing their captain and record goal scorer got out of the blocks well and were camped in the Saltash half in the opening twenty minutes, Keri-Ann Moxom going close with a flashing header and volley in quick succession.

All Helston's hard work was undone as Saltash scored a breakaway goal. The game then ebbed and flowed but Helston were racking up significant corners and territorial domination but could not find a finish to their hard work. Helston eventually levelled on the half hour mark when Charlotte Sparkes-Bond spotted the goalkeeper off her line and lobbed the equaliser from 35 yards.

Helston should have kicked on at this point but were losing some cheap possession and a scrambled clearance fell to Saltash who made it 2-1 to the travelling side going into Half-Time. Helston manager Paul Parfitt made some half time substitutions with Abi Locke and Ellie Sparkes replacing Charlotte Sparkes-Bond and Eve Moore, there was also a tactical change of formation to 5-3-2.

As Helston took back control they again succumbed to a breakaway goal and Saltash made it 3-1 and looked set to take the points. Helston then brought on Kim Yould and started to revert to their passing game, with 73 minutes gone Barker-Thomas went one on one with the keeper following a sublime pass from Ellie Sparkes and it was 3-2 and Helston were believing. Eve Moore returned to the field and quickly levelled at 3-3. Saltash were partly hanging on but also dangerous on the counter with Georgie Sweet making some excellent clearances and two key saves from Lyndsey Mayers keeping Helston level. At the other end the Saltash keeper too was super busy with saves from Barker-Thomas, Moxom, Moore and Lane.

In the final minutes Helston appeared to have won it as a second phase of play from a corner resulted in Georgia Lane forcing the ball home, the Saltash keeper looked despondent and as Helston players and the crowd were delighted with the goal the unsighted referee looked to the Saltash linesman who adjudged no goal stating it had not crossed the line.

Helston collect a point and sit third in the South West Regional Women's Football League table. Next week the first team have no match but the Development Team make their debut in the CWFL ironically facing Saltash Development at Kellaway Park.
