Wendron United made history again by progressing to the next round of the FA Vase with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth F.C.

A hat trick from Charlie Young and a strike from Kian Thomas saw the home side through to the next round, with Conor Jevon and Lewis Harvey grabbing the away side’s goals.

The Dron began the match with an attacking intent, as they controlled the opening proceedings, and they grabbed the first goal within the first nine minutes through Thomas.

The winger was sent through by Fred Walter and just had the ‘keeper to beat, calmly placing it underneath him to put the home side in the ascendency.

The away side hit back however in the 16th minute through their striker Jevon.

He latched onto the end of a chipped ball over the defence and slotted it under the onrushing goalie.

The game wouldn’t stay level for long though, as Wendron grabbed two goals in ten minutes to give the side a comfortable lead.

A well worked move down the left-hand side by Wendron led to Cameron Wheat firing in a low cross to forward Young to tap in with 23 minutes gone.

Wheat would set up another too, with a lovely dink over the back line for Young who gracefully lifted the ball over the advancing ‘keeper and into the open net in the 33rd minute.

Wendron captain Jack Stocker had a free kick that was just tipped over by Harry Gravit before both sides went in for half time.

Lewis Harvey would pull one back in the 54th minute, after he bundled the ball into the net following a corner that Wendron failed to deal with.

Wendron defended well in the second half, being well marshalled by defender Max Roberts, and controlled the game in stages, frustrating the travelling side into bad decisions.

With time running out, Wendron scored a fourth goal and put the game to bed in the 89th minute through Young who also rounded off his hattrick.

The away side were caught on the ball high up the pitch by the Dron, still pressing in the late stages of the match, leading to Wheat receiving the ball on the left and whipping a fantastic ball in for Young to tap home.

The winning goal sparked wild celebrations from the coaching team and fans, as Wendron United made club history again the FA Vase.

Wendron United will now look forward to the visit of New Milton Town in the next round. Another home fixture which will be played on the weekend of Saturday, November 20. Milton are 10th out of 20 teams in Wessex Division One.

After a slight blip in form with a loss against Penryn and a draw to Launceston, the Bournemouth victory now makes it three in a row for the Dron. They have been scoring goals for fun in that time too, netting 14 and conceding just three over the matches.

The win continues an impressive start to the season for Wendron, who in their next match travel to Camelford in a battle of second versus fourth in the South West Peninsula League.
