Wendron United Manager Michael O'Neill believed his side were deserved winners in their comeback 3-2 victory over Bodmin Town on Saturday afternoon at Underlane.

The visitors had taken a two-goal lead through two clinical finishes from Kian Burns and Dan Jennings.

Wendron replied before halftime with a superb strike of their own when Charlie Young sent a rocket into the top corner from the edge of the box.

In a second half of few chances, the home side came out on top thanks to two goals in the last ten minutes from substitutes Fred Walter and Jack Noy.

Speaking after the game, the gaffer was clearly delighted with the result. he said: "I am really happy actually, I felt that we were the dominant side in the game but we didn't close the opportunities down quick enough in the first half and Bodmin took them really well.

"If you take your chances you deserve to be in the lead. But we didn't give up, it didn't stop or deter us from the way we wanted to play, we stuck at it for the whole game.

"In fact, we cranked it up a couple of gears in the second half and I always felt that with the players we had on the pitch that we were going to get a goal and that if we did get one there was always a chance that a second and a third would come."

The manager admitted it had been a tough decision to change around his side for the match but said he was 'buzzing' for both Fred Walter and Jack Noy who came on and scored the two vital late goals: "I am buzzing for both, it was a really difficult decision to pick the starting 11 based on the fact the last two games we have kept clean sheets.

"Actually, we did rotate all three of those guys have started the last three games, so it was a big decision to take them out but the reason why I am more than happy to do that is not because of the players I am bringing in but the fact that those guys have shown enough in the last two games to come on and win games for us and that is exactly what they have done today."

The Dron are on a superb run of form at the moment that has them third in the table, level on points with second-places Liskeard who have five games in hand on Wendron, plus two games in hand on leaders Falmouth Town.

"I think that is ten wins out of 12". O'Neill began. "We have lost one and drawn one out of the last 12 games. So we are in a good strong, bit of form at the moment. The biggest thing at the moment is that we are staying in games and being competitive when historically that may not have happened.

"You could see the reaction at the end, it was really positive. The game still wasn't over at that point and we still had to close it out and I am really happy that we got what I feel we deserved today." The Manager added.

Wendron are next in action in the semi-final of the Cornwall Senior Cup when they play Saltash United of the Toolstation Western League at Burngallow Park on Wednesday, March 15.
