16-year-old Rocco Hill came off the bench to score with his first touch as Helston Athletic eased their way past ten-man Brislington with a 5-0 victory at Kellaway Park.

Helston had the majority of the possession and the chances in the opening half but despite having a heavy breeze on their side the Blues failed to find the back of the net.

They were handed a lifeline after 53 minutes though as the visitors were reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Liam May upended Stu Bowker way outside the box.

Helston took advantage of this with quickfire goals from Craig Veal, Jordan Bentley and Steve Colwell as the visitors collapsed in a matter of moments.

Teenagers Sam Buckley and Rocco Hill were brought on later in the half and the two linked up seconds after Hill's introduction to produce the fourth goal of the game. Buckley the provider laying a ball perfectly into the path of the onrushing Hill who slid a shot under the keeper for his first goal in Helston colours.

Buckley completed the scoring in the last ten minutes when he fired in a rebound after Reece Shanley was initially denied.

It is now three clean sheets in a row for Helston who are away to Cadbury Heath in their next match on Wednesday, March 24.

Steve Massey made three changes from Helston's 3-0 win over Tavistock in the Les Phillips Cup in midweek. New signing Aaron Bentley came in at centre half with Luke Dripconey dropping to the bench. Steve Colwell and Jackson Penhallurick replaced the suspended pair of Josh Storey and Tyler Elliott.

Helston set up in a 3-5-2 formation and with the wind on their side pressured the Brislington team into their own half.

With five minutes played there was a moment of panic for the visitor's goalkeeper after he attempted to punch a Penhallurick free-kick. The keeper scuffed his punch which saw the ball drop just wide of the goal for a corner. Aaron Bentley rose highest from the following set-piece but could only glance a header wide of the mark.

The visitors produced their best and only real chance to note in the 14th minute when Asa White volleyed from close range from a corner, but Mike Searle produced a stunning reflex save to keep Brislington at bay.

Bowker could have been celebrating in the next passage of play after he latched onto a defensive mix up, but the striker could only dink his effort onto the roof of the goal.

After 20 minutes Veal was a matter of inches away from connecting with a Harrison Jewell centre, but the cross was just too far in front of Helston's number nine.

Veal went close again after 32 minutes after he adjusted well to get on the end of a cross from Bowker but his stooping header went marginally wide of the target.

The best opportunity to open the scoring came after 42 minutes when talisman Bowker did tremendously well to hold off his man on the left side of the area. The forward engineered a yard of space before flashing a fierce cross/shot across the goalmouth which a sliding Reece Shanley couldn't connect with.

Veal had one more go before the break after a free-kick was cleared only as far as the striker on the edge of the box. But his prodded effort was easily hooked off the line.

After the break, the Helston pressure continued as the away side threw bodies on the line to keep the Blues at bay.

However, in the 53rd minute, they were down to ten with goalkeeper Liam May being shown a red card for a foul on Bowker.

The Helston striker was in on goal until the keeper came hurtling out to put in a challenge that got all the man and none of the ball. Referee James Long initially gave a yellow card but upon consultation with the linesman escalated the colour of his card to red.

Without a goalkeeper on the bench, Brislington's Conor Bryant donned the gloves but his first involvement was to pick the ball out of the net after Veal scored in bizarre fashion.

Shanley delivered a deep cross into the area, which normally a goalkeeper would claim. However, Bryant opted to stay on his line and as a Brislington defender attempted to clear the ball Veal threw himself in the way to deflect into the goal with 58 minutes played

It wasn't pretty but it was just the goal Helston needed and six minutes later they were celebrating again.

Matty Bye delivered a wide free-kick into the area. It landed at the feet of Jordan Bentley who elegantly volleyed the ball into the back of the net as the game grew away from Brislington.

A minute later it was three with what was the goal of the game. Helston played some superb one-touch football with Bowker intelligently flicking a Shanley pass into the path of Steve Colwell. The midfielder, 25 yards out hit his shot first time which looped into the far top corner to put the game beyond doubt.

Brislington came close to getting their name on the scoresheet when Ashley Kington had a go from more than 35 yards out but his effort which caught Searle off guard rebounded off the bar.

After 76 minutes Rocco Hill was introduced for his first senior appearance for Helstonabd he made it a memorable day as he scored seconds later with his first touch.

Sam Buckley found a good position on the edge of the area and slid a nicely weighted ball into Hill's path. The youngster still had a lot to do but tidily fired a first time effort into the bottom left corner to make it 4-0.

There was still time for another Helston youngster to score as Buckley celebrated the last goal of the game with an easy finish six minutes from time.

Again Shanley was involved and he forced the stand-in keeper into a strong save at the near post, the rebound fell kindly to Buckley who had stayed onside to tap the ball into the empty net from a yard out to make it 5-0.

Helston are still sixth in the league table with five points separating them from Bridgwater United above them. Athletic are next in action away to Cadbury Heath on Wednesday, March 23.
