Falmouth Town were finally able to lift the South West Peninsula League Premier West trophy after a convincing 6-0 hammering of Dobwalls at Bickland Park on Saturday.

A Jack Bray-Evans hat trick, a David Broglino brace, and a well placed strike from Luke Barner sealed the final three points of Falmouth’s season as they finished the campaign in style in front of a jubilant F-Troop.

Falmouth Town Manager Andrew Westgarth made three changes from Town’s 0-0 draw with Liskeard Athletic in midweek with Broglino, Luke Brabyn and Jamie Ware replacing Ade Thompson, Kirk Davies  and Tim Nixon.

Town had several opportunities to start the scoring in the opening minutes. Their best came when Alex Wharton did marvellously well to nod a Broglino set piece into the path of Luke Barner. The number ten struck an acrobatic half volley cleanly but was unfortunate to see it crash off the  bar with five minutes played.

Jack Bray-Evans might have felt he should have scored his 32nd league goal of the season after 13 minutes when Scott Kellow’s pin point centre picked out the unmarked striker in the area, but his weak header was straight at the visiting keeper.

Dobwalls captain Billy Westlake then found himself not picked up from a corner with 24 minutes played. Jack Clarke’s curling delivery found the centre back who could only direct his header marginally wide of the left post.

The visitors number seven Ray Spear was allowed space from 25 yards out to have pop on goal shortly after, but his fierce drive was well held by Ryan Barnes in the Falmouth net as the away side grew into the game.

Town could have been ahead on 34 minutes when some hap hazard defence from the visitors gifted the ball to Barner just outside the box.

He fed Wharton with a well-weighted pass but the winger’s first time effort blazed over the crossbar.

The game wasn’t to be level for long though as Town’s top scorer Bray-Evans eventually grabbed his much wanted 32nd league goal of the season a minute later.

The former Newquay man remained onside to speed away from the Dobwalls defence, before calmly slotting the ball low and through the goalies legs to make it 1-0.

Bray-Evans then turned from scorer to provider in the 42nd minute as Broglino doubled Town’s advantage.

The midfielder was well found following a late surge in behind from the centre of the park, and similarly to the first goal rolled a low shot into the far corner to make it 2-0 heading into half time.

Seconds after the restart Falmouth were celebrating again thanks to a superb strike from Broglino.

Luke Brabyn’s intelligent flick had set the box-to-box midfielder away as he bounded toward the box. He could have taken the ball closer but opted to shoot from outside the area, and what a shot it was as the effort ferociously flew into the top right corner to make it 3-0.

Jordan Duffey prevented Bray-Evans from making it 4-0 on 48 minutes, getting down low to stop a powerful header from the striker.

The keeper was in no mans land in the 50th minute though as Falmouth scored again. Kellow played a low ball in behind to the onrushing Barner.

The forward could have gone for goal himself, but unselfishly played in Bray-Evans who just had to knock the ball into the open goal to make it 4-0.

There was no let up in the clinical nature of Town’s number nine, who is chasing the golden boot award, as he celebrated scoring a hat trick three minutes later.

The usual corner routine of Broglino to Ward paid off as the centre back rose highest at the back post to nod back into the mix. Bray-Evans was the quickest to react out of a number of bodies and was on hand to prod the ball into the back of the net to make it 5-0.

Dobwalls used all of their subs early in the second half due to injuries as wave after wave of Falmouth attacks continued. Town then added to the rout after 63 minutes through a much deserved goal for Barner.

Fancy footwork from Brabyn got the Town winger away from his man, he had the composure to keep going and delicately roll the ball into Barner who had stayed onside on the right side of the box to side foot past the keeper at the near post to make it 6-0.

Town had looked to threaten with another attack in the 73rd minute down the left wing, but remarkably a spectating dog ran onto the pitch to jump on the ball with a great tackle!  The incident was received with great humour from the home faithful of proceeded to sing ‘who let the dogs out.’

Substitute Charlie Edney nearly added to the scoring with one of his first interventions since entering the pitch in the 78th minute but a strong hand from the visiting goalkeeper kept the strikers goal bound effort out.

The visitors were then reduced to ten men for the final minutes when Nelson Diepriye was given a sin bin yellow card in the 85th minutes following a verbal exchange with the linesman.

Edney would have the last chance of the game when he latched onto Tim Nixon’s low cross but under the close attentions of the keeper the striker could only scuff his effort wide of the mark.

The missed opportunity to make it seven failed to subdue the Falmouth fans who were roaring at full time as Captain Ward lifted the South West Peninsula League Premier West Trophy in the Grandstand.

Town had already confirmed the title after a 3-2 win against Penryn Athletic on Good Friday but this was the first opportunity to get their hands on the treasured silverware.
