A VERY mild spring morning greeted the ladies at Falmouth Bowling Club on Tuesday morning to compete in the next round of their popular competition.

For several weeks I have noticed the improvement in the performance of the Carnon's Daisies, skipped by Marnie Blunden, Jean Wright number two and Marleen George leading.

They faced the challenge of Constantine's Snapdragons who were near the top of the league, skipped by Yolande Drayson, Pam Wood number two and Brenda Tripp leading.

The Snapdragons made a confident start and after seven ends led 9-1 with things looking ominous for the Daisies. Suddenly, the whole game changed with the Daisies finding great form from somewhere to take the next six ends with 4-2-3-5-5-1, taking the two fives in succession to destroy the Snapdragons.

Unbelievably the Daisies won 21-12. Everyone was very pleased for the Daisies who have tried really hard to improve their game and it was good to see the Snapdragons being the first to congratulate them on their win.

Chacewater's Carnations, led by Anne Park, Dot Dunstan number two and Sue Rodker leading were in devastating form against Mawnan's Daffodils, led by Rose Wilshaw, Linda Storey number two and Pam Dearnley leading.

After five ends, the Carnations led 15-0, making it a uphill struggle for the Daffodils just to get back in the game. The Daffodils were reduced to scoring on only four ends of the 18, consequently the Carnations sped away to a 23-6 win to nab second place in the league.

Falmouth's Tulips, skipped by Betty Twelves, made a guest appearance with her sister Gloria Richards leading and accompanied by Carol Stanforth at number two.

With the regular Tulips' players abroad on holiday the stand-in team got off to a great start against Mylor's Cornflowers, skipped by Christine Robinson, Judy Chinn number two and Margaret Calthorpe leading, to lead 7-1 after four ends.

The Cornflowers then started to gradually peg the Tulips back as after 12 ends the Tulips only led by one shot, 10-9, but the Cornflowers could not take any more shots as the Tulips mopped up with a 3-1-1 to win the game 15-9.

Mylor's Bluebells, led by Jenny Collins, Jean Parke number two and Betty Stuart leading, made a great start to lead 6-0 after the first end against Falmouth's Hyacinths, led by Carol Pereir, Judy Bobin number two and Angela Angel leading.

However, after this count of six, the Bluebells were to stay on six for the next seven ends as the Hyacinths moved ahead to lead 10-6 after eight ends. It was then the Hyacinths' time to stand still on the count of ten for four ends as the Bluebells again took the lead 11-10 after 11 ends. The Hyacinths drew level 11-11 after 12 ends but the Bluebells took the last three ends to win a hard fought game 14-11.

Results: Hyacinths (Falmouth) (C Pereir) 11, Bluebells (Mylor) (J Collins) 14; Chacewater (Carnations) (A Park) 23, Daffodils (Mawnan) (R Wilshaw) 6; Daisies (Carnon) (M Blunden) 21, Snapdragons (Constantine) (Y Drayson) 12; Tulips (Falmouth) (B Twelves) 15, Cornflowers (Mylor) (C Robinson) 9.
