Falmouth Town produced a five star performance as they eased into the next round of the FA Vase with a 5-0 triumph over Launceston.

First half goals from Tim Nixon, Charlie Edney and Luke Brabyn had Town easily in front, while Jack Bray-Evans came off the bench after 50 minutes to grab two more to complete the scoring.

The victory was Town's first since their FA Vase Extra Preliminary Round victory over St Austell at the end of August.

After a minutes silence for former Penryn groundsman David 'Batesy' Baker Town got the tie underway and raced into a lead with just six minutes played.

The goal game in the form of a free kick after Charlie Edney was scythed down on the edge of the box. It granted the opportunity to Tim Nixon to step up and extend his hot form by wrapping a shot into the keepers side corner to make it 1-0.

Visiting keeper Lewis Slade had barely picked the ball out of the net before Falmouth had doubled their lead, this time through Edney. The goal came after great wing play down the left from Nixon who saw his low cross parried by the keeper kindly to Edney. The striker saw his first shot blocked before calmly slotting the rebound into the far corner.

Launceston nearly replied instantaneously when Ben Harrison let fly from at least 30 yards out but the midfielder saw his effort strike the upright after eight minutes.

Town seemingly put the game beyond doubt with just 14 minutes on the clock. Tom Annear located Luke Brabyn with an accurate ball over the top. The striker still had a lot to do but showed great composure to roll the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net for his first goal of the campaign.

With their three-goal cushion Town began to take their foot off the gas and controlled the tempo of the game by dominating the possession stats without threatening too much to add to the scoring.

The closest they came to that fourth goal came just minutes shy of the half time whistle when Annear's distribution again was on point to pick out Nixon who advanced into the box. The winger's low shot beat the keeper but was brilliantly hooked off the line by George Beardsmore.

Town exchanged Nixon for Oli Pickup at the interval while Jack Bray-Evans replaced Charlie Edney five minutes into the second half and the forward who has been sidelined for much of the season with a hamstring injury made his mark in the 65th minute.

It followed quick thinking from Jack Webber to flick a free kick into the path of Luke Barner, catching the defence unaware.

The midfielder rolled the ball back across goal for Bray-Evans who had the simple task of tapping in to make it 4-0.

Barner had the chance to get on the scoresheet himself in the 73rd minutes after a failed clearance fell his way. But his volley went straight at Slade between the sticks.

One minute later though they were celebrating what was to be the last goal of the game. Barner was sent in behind beating the offside trap. The forward could have gone alone but instead put it on a plate for Bray-Evans to knock in to make it 5-0.

Town were forced to see out the final moments of the game with just nine men when Barner was sin binned for dissent to the referee while Scott Kellow limped off with an injury. Nevertheless they protected their clean sheet and progressed into the next round of the competition. The draw for that round will take place on Monday, September 26.
