The second team match between Bude and Falmouth Eages in the Counties 3 Tribute Cornwall league proved to be an exciting and competitive affair, writes Danny Trick.

Despite having only one substitution in the shape of veteran Danny Trick, the Eagles approached the game with anticipation, aiming to build on their previous performance and secure their first league victory.

The Eagles 2XV faced a formidable challenge in Bude's heavier pack, but they held their ground in the first half.

With astute tactical kicking from Tug Wilson at fly-half, the Eagles 2XV managed to pin Bude in their own half with the aid of the wind.

As the first half came to a close, the Eagles 2XV found themselves leading 7-5, with hopes of maintaining their advantage in the second half.

The half-time talk seemed to have a positive impact on the Eagles 2Xv as they came out firing in the second half. The backline, now consisting of Wilson, Trick, Horton, Waters, and Mitchell, orchestrated waves of attacks from deep positions.

Their excellent play provided the platform for the pack to showcase their Fijianesque skills, with Cameron Hopkins leading the way.

Hopkins, who was later awarded Man of the Match, made significant contributions with two tries and his hard yards. Scott Dunstan was unlucky not to have a hat-trick, but his selflessness was noted.

Harry Martin, involved in most key plays, also made his mark with a try, while Cam Bullock, instrumental to the team performance, added to the Eagles' scoreline with a successful conversion against the prevailing wind.

Dom Fearn was unlucky not to be rewarded for his match efforts, having provided the engine and catalyst for much that was positive in the loose and open play.

The collective effort of this resilient group, playing "for the badge," resulted in a well-deserved victory and a bonus point.

Team manager Sandy said: "The fact that they achieved this without any real substitutions highlights their determination and team spirit."

The Eagles 2XV will now return to the Rec for their next match at home against Roseland, scheduled for a 3pm kick-off this Saturday, September 23 where they hope to see a good support base cheering them on.
