Camborne 31- Dudley Kingswinford 7

Camborne RFC returned to winning ways with a comprehensive victory against Dudley Kingswinford, which completed a National League Two double over the relegation threatened Midlands outfit, writes Martin Symons.

In front of a big crowd at the Recreation Ground with rain falling, the Cherry & Whites capitalised crucially on first use of the wind and slope to build up an unassailable 26-0 lead by the interval.

After an early period of home pressure it was prop Declan Prowse who barged over for the opening try on 13 minutes. George Edson then landed a well judged conversion for a 7-0 lead.

The error count began to rise in the slippery conditions but midway through the half centre Connor Gilbert was on hand to dive over for an unconverted score to increase the home advantage.

As half time approached a strong run by fit again wing Jack Kessell earned ‘Town’ an attacking opportunity and eventually outstanding flanker Jordan Nicholls powered over under the posts.

Fly half Edson knocked over the regulation extras and soon after he found the target again this time superbly from a wide angle when centre AJ King’s neat pass had sent wing Lewis Vinnicombe in at the scoreboard corner flag for the bonus point try.

With conditions deteriorating after the break Camborne gave a superb display of disciplined defence to repel all Dudley efforts to get back into the contest.

Eventually the Cherry & Whites broke out in an isolated attack to force a close range lineout from where hooker Ben Priddey was driven over by his forwards for the 5th try of the afternoon and a 31-0 lead.

Late on the visitors gained some consolation with a converted try but Camborne were not to be denied a deserved victory to consolidate 6th place in the table ahead of next weekend’s trip to Bristol to face Old Redcliffians.
