The annual Falmouth Community Youth Football Club Parents versus Coaches match took place at the weekend.

Held at Falmouth School 3G, it was a very tense and exciting match ending in a close win for the coaches 3-2.

With most sporting fixtures cancelled at the weekend, it was great to see so much support for the match from children and adults watching their dads and coaches in action.

The conditions were tough to play in - including constant rain and a waterlogged 3G pitch. But this didn't dampen the atmosphere from the players and supporters for the afternoon.

The girls' team organised the cake stall, which made £150 to cover pitch hire and go towards coaching education.

The match was supported by some of the club's youth referees who have just completed their qualification.

The club now has 11 youth referees who have been fully funded through the club.

Janine Kennedy, club chairperson, said: "We are lucky to have Mark Averiss, who is not only a Cornwall FA referee mentor but also our club mentor to support the youth referees in their development.

"Mark was the manager for the parent team, alongside Arno Canale who established the club 40 years ago.

"Manager of the coaches team was the clubs head coach Ashley Blakely-May and refereed by the club's girls representative Andrew Jenkin."
