Another week of torrential weather left Cornish football facing up to the wreckage of fixtures in the Kernow Stone St Piran League with just seven games surviving the entire programme, writes Leon Prynn

There were no games played in the premier division, but in division one Mawnan, thanks to the excellent co-operation of Ludgvan who worked all morning to get their ground fit for play, managed to switch the home game to their opponent’s ground at short notice.

After a well-contested game Mawnan won 5-2 and in so doing moved to the top of the table on goal difference although they have played three more games than previous leaders Praze.

Jago Taylor put Mawnan in front after 10 minutes with a neat finish from a pass by Ben Harris, but Ludgvan hit back with two goals in 10 minutes late in the second half to lead 2-1 at half-time.

Mawnan were a different side in the second half and dominated possession with Taylor equalising after 50 minutes following good work by Oli Richardson.

A good set piece delivered by Darren Friend enabled Taylor to complete his hat-trick with a back-post header and Peter Cortis, back after a lengthy spell on the injury list, didn’t take long to make it 4-2.

Two minutes from time Kevin Morris rolled back the years with a thunderous 30-yard strike to cap off a good win against competitive opponents.

Camborne SoM chalked up another good win after they disposed of Porthleven Reserves 4-1 on the 3G at Falmouth School.

The students took an early lead when Ed Swain scored from a penalty and Swain doubled his tally with a second goal from a tight angle, but by half-time it was already proving a tight encounter with Willem Lowden having replied for The Fishermen.

Karlo Jawo cut the ball back for Will Bourne to give the students some breathing space and Toby Alford snapped up the fourth goal from a pass by Will Lifter to ensure the points.

RNAS Culdrose continued their good form when they defeated Helston Athletic II 2-0 in a local derby at the air base. Frank Archer gave the servicemen a half-time lead and a goal on the hour by Zya Sateri wrapped up the win for Culdrose.

Division two was wiped out, but in division three Dropship moved to within two points of Probus with a game in hand after winning 2-0 against St Erme. Oscar Fergus-Gay and Conner Hurrell scored their goals.

Lanner pulled off their fourth successive win after edging a close contest 2-1 at RNAS Culdrose Reserves. Jake Leigh scored for the servicemen, but goals from Bradley Clements and Kyle Hocking snatched the points for Lanner.

There was also two games in division four with St Just Reserves thumping Troon Reserves 10-2, quite a surprise given Troon’s recent good form.

Colin Manley snapped up four goals in Storm’s 7-2 win against Helston Raiders. Gurpreet Singh helped himself to a hat-trick with Raiders replying through James Kennedy and Chris Symon.
